Computational thinking, the fourth basic skill after reading, writing and calculation. ERASMUS+ ICT.1.CT

A 1 Week ERASMUS+ Teacher Training Course about computational thinking.  

This course has been created for teachers from elementary and primary education, for educators of the non-formal teaching sector, and for all those working in the field of education. Nowadays, it is the role of schools to foster among students the use of new technologies in a very conscious and active way, as well as to experiment new modalities and new contexts in order to reflect, cooperate and develop creativity during the learning process.

Participants will be involved in an active learning process, also focusing on personal experience and self-reflection to make the learning process easier and ensure long-lasting retention of the new knowledge.

During the course, participants will learn how computational thinking will be approached to in the classroom context to cope with certain teaching purposes. The course will improve the teachers’ ability to develop their students’ digital skills and literacy, this will also allow the students to share their learning and discoveries through online platforms and establish external international dialogues. 

Participants will also learn:

-When, where and why we have started speaking about computational thinking and coding.

-The importance of the computational thinking and the efficiency and positive aspects of using this new skill.

-The sort of activities that help to develop and boost the computational skill in a school context and beyond, being able to apply it in a transversal way to each subject or topic. 

-How to use suitable technological instruments to implement unplugged activities, that is, those not requiring the use of technological tools.

By the end of the course, participants will have acquired basic knowledge, both historical and technical, allowing them to get started with coding activities in order to develop computational thinking at their schools. Participants will learn how to combine theory and practice in a productive way, to actively maintain students’ attention and motivation throughout the computational thinking experience. They will also be invited to improve their own creative attitude though a simple series of group and individual exercises that stimulate lateral thinking.

Guided city tours and a one-day excursion (usually on Saturday) will also be part of the programme.
