Computational thinking, coding and Maria Montessori’s Method - ERASMUS + ICT.1.CTC

A 1 Week ERASMUS+ Teacher Training Course about coding and Maria Montessori’s educational approach.

The course has been created for teachers from elementary and primary education, for educators of the non-formal teaching sector, and for all those working in the field of education. Nowadays we live in a world invaded by technologies; therefore, there is an imminent need for schools to guide students on the careful and appropriate use of technologies, considering them like a methodological process – the same as other teaching material (i.e. these mentioned by Montessori) – and not the final purpose in the children’s learning.

Teachers should always instruct and guide students on the use of new technologies at school, allowing them to reach their own interests according to their individual learning style, and to become autonomous students throughout their lives.

Participants will learn

- all the analogies between the concept of ‘coding’ and Maria Montessori’s educational approach:

Experimenting by yourself

Handling material directly, checking and controlling mistakes

Monitoring attempts and mistakes and trying to look for new solutions

Learning through discovery

Working and learning autonomously without requiring help from adults

Developing Autonomy and self-evaluation in the learning process

Developing and fostering creativity and logical processes

Developing concentration, attention and precision skills

- how to develop, design and coordinate coding activities to foster computational thinking, taking as a reference the structural material inspired by Maria Montessori.

Participants will be involved in an active learning process, also focusing on personal experience and self-reflection to make the learning process easier and ensure long-lasting retention of the new knowledge.

Participants will learn how to combine theory and practice in a productive way, to actively maintain students’ attention and motivation throughout the computational thinking and coding experience. They will also be invited to improve their own creative attitude though a simple series of group and individual exercises that stimulate lateral thinking.

Guided city tours and a one-day excursion (usually on Saturday) will also be part of the programme.
